Seniors Feel Right at Home in Raincross
Village
At Raincross Village, a new retirement
community in Riverside, California, active seniors can
exercise their passion for living. Nestled in the heart of
the city’s senior activity area, this one-of-a-kind village
setting is designed exclusively for 55+ adults. The
craftsman-style architecture of rental cottages in this real estate
community reflects the city’s rich architectural heritage, and
a network of meandering pathways links the village’s many greenscape areas. It’s all tucked away behind a handsomely
landscaped perimeter wall.
The Janet Goeske Senior Center
Raincross Village is only a short walk from the renowned
Janet Goeske Senior Center, whose mission statement is: “To
provide seniors/disabled seniors opportunities to continue an
active, rich and productive life through a constantly
expanding program of travel, health, education, recreation and
social activities, in pleasant surroundings and inexpensively
as possible.” Operated by a non-profit corporation and
requiring only a modest annual membership fee, the center is
an incredible resource that offers something for everyone.
The Goeske Center’s numerous clubs and
scheduled activities cover nearly every interest, ranging from
bridge, Scrabble, chess and other games to creative pursuits
such as painting and pottery-making, calligraphy, needlework
and quilting. While many members participate in fitness
classes, tennis, yoga or Tai Chi, others get involved in all
types of dancing, musical groups or clubs dedicated to
gardening, reading and discussing current events. The center’s
Travel Department schedules short excursions to Southern
California shopping, entertainment and cultural destinations,
along with one- to three-day trips to places like Las Vegas,
Scottsdale and San Luis Obispo. Long-distance trips and
cruises are also popular. Special events run the gamut from
the Annual Health Fair to weekly movies and monthly birthday
celebrations.
From retirement-oriented groups like AARP to support groups
of every type, the center offers opportunities to learn, grow
and share ideas with people in similar circumstances. Members
can take advantage of many free services, including everything
from video rentals to health screenings to legal
consultations.
